Aquarius Full Moon 2024
The Full Moon at 27°15' Aquarius opposes the Sun at the exact same degree in Leo at 2:26pm on Monday, August 19th. This polarity happens monthly whenever the Sun and Moon form an aspect known as the opposition, pretty straight forward really. When you consider 2 planets opposed to one another in different signs and elements, you recognize that they have different agendas and that the only way to break the stalemate is to compromise. Except that's not so easily done when the two bodies are the Sun and Moon in Leo and Aquarius.
These are the "Lights" and the Moon only shines by the light of the Sun's reflection which is strongest in its' rulership Leo. Actually, all the planets in the signs of this chart come back to the Sun, known as the final dispositor. We know the Sun in Leo has an agenda to have a good time and get recognition for its brilliance, while the Moon in Aquarius is concerned with everyone's rights as individuals and society as a whole. So how do we bring these energies of the ego and the emotions together?
Let's look at the other major aspects to the Lights. Of course Mercury is conjunct the Sun in Leo so the opposition from the Moon highlights mind versus emotions; what do you think you ought to do, as opposed to how you feel about it. The most glaring aspect is the square from Uranus in Taurus bringing upheaval, uncertainty and impulsivity into play. There's a strong potential for more earthquakes and possible volcanic eruptions. There's also the potential for breakthroughs in science, medicine and technology thanks to Uranus' knack for ingenuity and genius.
A second T-square occurs between Venus in Virgo opposing Saturn in Pisces, both squaring a Mars/Jupiter conjunction in Gemini. Impatience, frustration and perfectionism are all standing in the way of building a new foundation of compassion, security and stability in the world. There is also a Yod, or Finger of God aspect from the Sun to Pluto and Neptune, with the Moon at the midpoint, advising us to connect with others, look at alternative possibilities and stand up for the rights of the individual as we adjust to new realities.
Finally, a ray of hope emanates from Pluto at 00°Aquarius trine Uranus at 28°Taurus and both sextile to Neptune at 29°Pisces. The 3 outer, transpersonal planets are temporarily working together for social change and the greater good by incorporating spirituality into new systems and releasing outmoded inefficient ways of doing things. These changes will particularly benefit the disenfranchised, immigrants and the homeless.
Transformation from egocentric focus to real social change benefitting everyone will happen when we break through stuck beliefs and embrace spirit in the heart. In esoteric astrology we're dealing with the 4th Ray and working on achieving harmony through chaos. The Sagittarian Ascendant of this chart shows the way forward. Allowing, envisioning and connecting are some of the tools we have to use. It feels like this Full Moon is the first step over the threshold into the Age of Aquarius and a whole new reality!
Remember, it's more important than ever to keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground!
